The Frankenstein Chronicles – Let’s Have a Look

Logged onto Netflix this morning and the first thing to pop up is some “new” show called The Frankenstein Chronicles; A Netflix Original Series.

“Hmmm, ok” I thought to myself. There’s always some new Netflix Original releasing under my nose. Then I noticed Sean Bean. That made it a must-see. Not only do I love Sean Bean, but I love to see good actors land a series job. So, I gave the first episode a go.

I’m relieved to say that The Frankenstein Chronicles has my full attention. It’s dark, great dialogue and performance from everyone involved, and Sean Bean delivers as the protagonist.  Essentially, it’s a detective story. Mr. Bean’s plays a character named John Marlott, an ex-soldier turned river cop, obviously with a dark past, who finds himself in a position where he’s investigating the grim findings of a “dead” girl that had washed up on a beach. And The Bean, the man of a thousand movie lives, goes to inspect the body. This scene almost startled me. I just wasn’t ready and I left my Teddy Bear in my basement. ANYWAY…

Right away, we see where the “Frankenstein” of the story rears its head. About 15 minutes into the show, it became obvious to me that this show was going to be something to come back for. Netflix Originals often times grab my attention to some extent but usually not enough to dedicate an hour or two of my life to finding out if it’s any good, especially their feature films. But I had a good feeling about this one. There’s detective stuff, 19th-century politics, good acting, talks of monsters and Sean Bean!

My interest is officially peaked. The show is already 2 seasons in so it has plenty of time to slip and suck. It’s worth a shot, I think  Please don’t spoil it for me. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the first episode at least and let me know what you think in the comments or on my FaceBook page. I’m going to finish up the first season when I can and let you all know what I think about it overall. Here goes nothing!
