The Equalizer 2 trailer is FINALLY here. Denzel Washington is such a badass, isn’t he? He really sells it well on camera.
Remember the Book of Eli? I don’t care if you’re a fan of post-apocalyptic films or not, you have to add this movie to your library. Denzel Washington showed us in that film that he can take on multiple foes just as efficiently as freaking Batman. In the first Equalizer film, he was all but invincible. I wouldn’t mind seeing a crossover with John Wick but the screen would probably explode.
Equalizer 2 is the first sequel Denzel has ever done in his career. Even after hearing there would be a second installment to the remake, I was careful to believe it. But here we are. Denzel is back along with his old buddy Antoine Fuqua directing the film.
Equalizer 1, which was released four years ago, got mild to positive reviews. I liked it quite a bit. Yes, I’m a tad partial to Denzel but he doesn’t guarantee a good film. He just guarantees that he’ll be one of the best things about it. The issues I took with the first film was with the story itself – it was thin. The disturbingly awesome Marton Csokas added some more badass villain spice to the soup. But more could’ve been to done to make me care about Chloë Grace Moretz’s character.
Equalizer 2, however, looks to add a bit more meat to the sandwich. It appears that Denzel’s character, Robert McCall is on yet another mission for some revenge but this time hitting closer to home. The woman he seemed to have a deep connection to from the first film – his handler or something of the sort – has apparently been murdered. And needless to say, he’s not at all happy about it. Pedro Pascal’s addition certainly has many of us paying more attention. His character seems to have a very close connection to McCall and the “handler” judging by their strong embrace. I can’t wait to see Denzel and Pedro work together in this film.
The Equalizer 2 looks even more brutal than its predecessor, and that’s saying a lot. Denzel kicking ass just looks so damn effortless. He reminds you that you don’t have to be Scott Adkins to make it all look good. Keanu pulls that off very well too in his John Wick films. But there’s Denzel’s way and no one can duplicate it. The man is 63 years old for crying out loud. I’m about ready to put a damn costume on him and tell him to save the city.
The stakes are obviously higher. While McCall seems unbeatable, even his closest allies who know him best warns him about going to war with this new enemy. That makes me excited and worried at the same time. Don’t think that McCall couldn’t die in this movie. Just because Denzel decided to do his first sequel certainly doesn’t mean that he’ll do a third to cap off a trilogy. This could very well be it. And you know what, Denzel will act the sh*t out of that too.
Nobody and I mean NOBODY can sell a death scene like Denzel F’n Washington!
The Equalizer 2 Opens in July
