Everyone’s been talking about the Bird Box movie since its Netflix debut. The reception seemed split amongst the masses. But numbers don’t lie. And Bird Box proved to be Netflix’s most viewed film yet.
Netflix has reported that Bird Box is the best performing Netflix film in its first week of release, ever. Their data shows that the Sanda Bullock horror was viewed by 45,037,125 Netflix accounts.
Huge numbers for the streaming Green Giant. That’s in no small part due to word of mouth. Even stranger, not all of the feedback was positive. I suppose that made everyone want to see it even more.
Personally, I was going to wait to see it. Until half of my friends who liked it, lobbied for it. The other half wanted to know what I thought because they themselves hated it. There was just too much intrigue to pass up at that point.
My wife and I finally sat down to check it out and….
We liked it. I would rate it a 7/10. It was a bit long. The film left more questions than I’d care to get answers for. It felt more like an M. Night Shyamalan film than anything, to which I’m not complaining.
Bird Box definitely seemed to borrow some hints for A Quiet Place, though I don’t believe it was purposeful. But I can’t help but see the similarities.
Sanda Bullock was great as usual. It was good to see John Malkovich as well. As a whole, the performances were very good.
I could understand why some people wouldn’t like Bird Box that much. What vexes me more is how this movie got talked about so much. You just never know how people will respond to a film. It was different, I’ll give it that. But I won’t be watching it again anytime soon. I’m good.
Check out the Bird Box movie on Netflix and tell me what you think.
